Microformats explained

From the blog of Alex Faaborg comes this interesting explanation of microformats. Microformats are bits of embedded structured code (e.g. xml) that allow software to make sense out of content on your pages and maybe actually do something with them.

I'm particularly fascinated by the idea that microformats would help browsers act as intermediaries between your applications and content out on the Internet. For example - you might want to write an email to someone who's address you don't have. Your browser could be smart enough to search the Internet for the person you want to write to - recognize their contact info in a publicly available page, and return that address to your mail app. Its another step in the right direction for the semantic web.
